Will the next Android be called Pistachio Ice Cream? – Google is working on the way to release its next version of Andriod by August 2018

Android – the most popular and highly used smartphone OS by Google has started rolling out it’s latest version the “Android Oreo” in the second half of last year. With only a few mobiles seeing Android 8.0 Oreo ‘in the flesh’, it seems that Google is already thinking ahead to Android P, and that it would be made fresh to support phones with notches, as well as devices that will sport more than one display or a flexible one.

We’ve pondered on what Android P could be finally called – but apparently, it is currently known as Android Pistachio Ice Cream internally at Google.

  • What is its name? Pistachio Ice Cream – called internally as of now (But image of Pineapple upside-down cake teased)
  • When is it out? Probably August 2018
  • How much will it cost? It will be a free update

Google has given previous versions of Android names after dessert and a few of them have been named through commercial tie-ups like the current Android Oreo.

Thought Pistachio Ice Cream might not make it to the full consumer version, it fits the naming convention of Android. Indeed, Ice Cream has been used once before – 2011’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

As part of that, the company teased a picture of Pineapple upside-down cake. Is that what Google P will be called?

Android P release date

It is expected that Google will unveil Android P likely by March 2018 and will probably available as developers preview. After several beta version, it will get released completely in 2018 August as like its previous release in 2017.

Previous Android version names (versions 1.0 and 1.1 didn’t have release codenames):

  • Android 1.5 Cupcake
  • Android 1.6 Donut
  • Android 2.2 Eclair
  • Android 2.2 Froyo
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Android 7.0 Nougat
  • Android 8.0 Oreo (the latest version)

As there isn’t a lack of choice when it comes to sweet stuff, deserts beginning in P, there’s Pineapple and few which matches the above previous release namings and also with the image.
